Bicycles for Health and Development

We received a 40-foot container full of bikes to support the Bicycles for Health and Development programme in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

This project helps women who carry heavy loads on their backs and heads not to carry them.
Instead of carrying heavy loads on their heads and backs, these women and girls will start using bicycles. The programme will help also to reduce poverty and promote socioeconomic and health activities in different villages.

This project will also help our microfinance programme and other MHCD self-financing projects.

We are very grateful to Bicycles for Humanity Perth Australia for supporting us with these bikes and to all those who contributed to the transport from Australia to the DRC via the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

About MHCD

MHCD was founded out of Dr Luc’s compassion for the people of Kenya and in his home town of Luvungi in Eastern D.R. Congo.  After working in Kenya and coming back to Luvungi in 2006 he was so touched by the plight of the desperately poor and disadvantaged people, particularly women and children that he immediately committed to helping them by providing medical assistance.
